University students sometime have a rough time finding tastey foods to eat at inexpensive prices. My sister and I came up with Pizza Toasts and a great inexpensive supper. Its a great way to use up bits and ends of other meals or cooking supplies and also a way to have a frugal Pizza Party with other university students. The base is any kind of bread, with any kind of tomatoe sauce (not ketchup), with any cheese/meats/veggies on hand that you think will work.
2 | Slices of any kind of Pre-toasted bread/bun/bagel/wrap |
1/4 cup | any kind of tomatoe sauce/chilli/spagetti sauce/tomatoe paste |
1 bunch | of ast vegetables you would like on a pizza |
1 cup | of cooked meat like bacon, hamburger, sandwich meat, pepperoni, ham, turkey, etc |
1 cup | sliced or shredded cheese |
1 tsp | oregano and/or basil, chilli powder, pizza seasoning etc |
1.)Toast bread or bread like item till firm enough to hold pizza toppings
2.) spread on some kind of tomatoe sauce/paste (tip: we used to freeze leftover spaghetti sauce just for this) Chilli leftover works great too.
3.) top with meats and veggies of your choice (especially with whatever you have on hand or left overs)
4.) top with cheese
5) season with oregano or other pizza friendly spice or seasoning
6.) bake in oven at 350 degrees till cheese has melted and is bubbling.
Great for the frugal cook!
