Depart from the traditional and try this citrus and herb butter basted turkey. Everyone will be drawn to the kitchen by the intoxicating aroma of this turkey while its roasting!
|1||6 to 8 kg Maple Leaf Prime whole turkey|
|1||seedless orange, quartered|
|1||large lemon, quartered|
|1||small onion, quartered|
|4||cloves garlic, crushed|
|2||sprigs fresh rosemary|
|4||sprigs fresh thyme|
|1 cup||butter, melted|
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Place turkey into a large roasting pan. Squeeze juice of quartered orange, lemon, and lime over turkey. Stuff the cavity with juiced citrus quarters, onion, garlic and herbs. Pour melted butter over turkey and season with salt and pepper. Roast turkey per package instructions basting every half hour. Tent turkey loosely with foil if browning to quickly. Roast until golden brown and an internal temperature of 165 degrees is reached. Allow to rest 15 minutes before carving. Strain any remaining turkey drippings and marinade into a small pot. Mix together cornstarch and water and stir into gravy to thicken.
Serve with whipped mashed potatoes, and green & yellow bean amandine.
