Classic spaghetti sauce made with ground turkey. Hearty and delicious.
|1 tbsp||(15 mL) Olive oil|
|1 lb||(454 g) Maple Leaf Prime Naturally® Ground Turkey|
|½||Medium onion, finely diced|
|1||Carrot, peeled and grated|
|1||Stalk celery, finely chopped|
|2 cups||(500 mL) Sliced button mushrooms|
|2||Cloves garlic, minced|
|1 tbsp||(15 mL) Tomato paste|
|1 tbsp||(15 mL) Worchestershire sauce|
|1 tsp||(5 mL) Soy sauce|
|½ tsp||(2 mL) Italian seasoning|
|Salt and pepper|
|1||(650 mL) Jar Marinara sauce|
|1 lb||(450 g) Spaghetti|
|Grated Parmesan cheese|
|Chopped parsley (optional)|
|Dried chili flakes (optional)|
HEAT oil in a large saucepan over medium-high. Add turkey and cook, breaking apart with the back of a wooden spoon for 8-10 minutes and no longer pink. Add onion, carrot, celery, and mushrooms. Cook, stirring occasionally for 4-5 minutes or until vegetables begin to soften. Stir in garlic, tomato paste, Worchestershire sauce, soy sauce and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper. Add Marinara sauce and stir. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
MEANWHILE bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta according to the package directions, usually about 9 minutes until al dente. Drain, reserving 1 cup of the pasta water and set aside. If the sauce is too thick, use a little pasta water to thin as needed.
SERVE spaghetti topped with pasta sauce and garnished with grated Parmesan cheese, parsley and chili flakes.
Substitute Maple Leaf Prime Naturally® Ground Chicken for turkey.
