Try this Bavarian inspired sausage on a bun recipe for your next BBQ!
|1 Pkg||(300 g) Maple Leaf Prime® Naturally Turkey Sausage, scored|
|4||soft long mini rolls, top sliced|
|1 cup||(250 mL) sauerkraut|
|1||large onion, sliced|
|1 tbsp||(15 mL) butter|
|1/2 tbsp||(7.5 mL) canola oil|
|1 tbsp||(15 mL) caraway seeds|
|4||slices jarlsberg or swiss cheese|
PREHEAT grill to medium high heat.
HEAT butter and oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
ADD caraway seeds and cook stirring frequently for about 15 to 20 seconds.
COOK 4 to 5 minutes stirring frequently until softened and starting to turn a deep gold brown color.
SEASON with salt and pepper.
SET aside and keep warm.
GRILL sausages for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until an internal temperature of 165 degrees is reached.
PLACE sauerkraut into a microwave safe bowl and heat on high power for 30 seconds or until warmed through.
ASSEMBLE by placing one slice of cheese into top split of bun.
DIVIDE sauerkraut between buns.
PLACE sausages on top followed by onions.
TOP with grainy mustard or desired mustard.
Serve with pretzels or kettle style chips.
