This hot dog brings the flavor with homemade tomato relish finished with plenty of grated mozzarella cheese!
|1 Pkg||Maple Leaf® Canadian CraftTM Montreal Style Smoked Meat Wieners|
|5||sesame seed hot dog buns|
|1 cup||(250 mL) mozzarella cheese, grated|
|2 tbsp||(30 mL) olive oil|
|1||pint cherry tomatoes|
|1||small onion, small dice|
|1 tbsp||(15 mL) garlic, minced|
|1 1/2 tbsp||(22.5 mL) red wine vinegar|
|1/3 tsp||(2.5 mL) sugar|
|1 tbsp||(15 mL) parsley, chopped|
Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Place hot dogs in pot, reduce heat to a simmer.
Cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.
Remove from water and cover and keep warm.
In a large skillet heat olive oil over medium heat.
Add tomatoes, allow to begin to blister and pop stirring frequently.
About 2 minutes.
Add onions and cook for 1 to 2 minutes more or until onions are softened.
Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.
Pour in vinegar and add sugar.
Stir to combine well and allow to cook 1 minute longer.
Season with salt and pepper.
Remove mixture to a large bowl.
Using the back of a fork mash to desired texture.
Allow to cool slightly.
Arrange hot dog by dividing cheese to the bottom of each hot dog bun followed by hot dog and topped with tomato relish.
Alternatively you can BBQ hot dogs! Save any remaining relish in an airtight container and use as a condiment to burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches.
