About this Recipe

Mexican spices blended together in a chicken burger with melted spicy cheese. Salsa and mayonnaise combine to highlight the warmth of the flavours

1 lb Maple Leaf Prime Naturally® Extra Lean Ground Chicken
2 Cloves garlic, minced
1 Package taco seasoning
1 cup Tex Mex grated cheese, divided
3 tbsp Mayonnaise or sour cream
3 tbsp Salsa
4 Slices tomato
4 Slices green or yellow pepper
4 Slices onion
4 Hamburger buns

PREHEAT BBQ to medium-high.

GENTLY mix together chicken, garlic, taco seasoning and half the cheese if a large bowl. Divide into four portions and form into patties.

LIGHTLY coat the grill with non-stick cooking spray. Grill the chicken patties for 6-8 minutes per side or until evenly char-grilled and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

DIVIDE the remaining cheese between the four burgers and allow the cheese to melt.

ASSEMBLE the burgers by mixing the mayonnaise or sour cream with the salsa and spreading on the buns. Place a burger on the bottom of the bun followed by a slice of tomato, pepper and onion. Top with the other half of the bun and serve.

Make your own taco seasoning by combining 1 tbsp (15 mL) Smoked paprika, 2 tsp (10 mL) Cumin, 2 tsp (10 mL) Chili powder, 1 tsp (5 mL) Oregano, ½ tsp (2 mL) Coriander, ¼ tsp (1 mL) Cayenne, salt and pepper and 1 tbsp (15 mL) Cornstarch.
