Hot baked Calzones that are hearty and filling for the meat lovers in your family.
Great for easy weeknight or weekend movie meals that can be eaten with one hand.
Big and small kids will love these.
|1||room temperature raw pizza dough|
|flour for shaping|
|4||slices each Schneiders salami or ham or Maple Leaf Chicken or Turkey deli meats, chopped|
|250 g||mozzarella, shredded on large holes of grater|
|1 cup||homemade tomato sauce|
|4||slices of Schnieders or Maple Leaf low sodium Bacon|
Place bacon slices onto a microwavable dish covered and lined with paper towels. One on top and bottom of dish to absorb the fat.
Microwave on high 1-2 min until crisp. Cool and break into pieces.
Cut dough into 4 even pieces.
Lightly flour dough, using your hands stretch each piece roughly into a 6"-7" circle. Perfection is not important here. Finish with a rolling pin to 1/4" thickness.
Evenly divide deli meats and bacon, placing off center on one end of the dough leaving 1"-2" rim.
Top with a heaping tablespoon of your best tomato sauce.
Divide cheese, placing over sauce, leaving some for the top of the calzone.
Fold over side of dough sandwiching the filling.
Begin to press and pinch the edges of the dough to secure the filling.
Cut slits on top of the dough.
Brush some sauce over the top then sprinkle with extra cheese.
Place on a sprayed baking sheet or line with silpat/parchment paper.
Bake in a preheated 400F for 30 min until golden and puffy.
Have each person make their own adding fun with the fillings.
