About this Recipe

Serve hot and smothered in sauce-- the best pasta to serve to the family this week!

3 slices Maple Leaf® Natural Selections® Bacon, chopped
2 Octoberfest Grill'ems, sliced
1 Small onion, thinly sliced
1 Clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp (2 mL) Chili flakes
1 tsp (5 mL) Balsamic vinegar
1 tsp (5 mL) Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp (2 mL) Brown sugar
1 Pkg (600 mL) Olivieri® Marinara Sauce
1 Pkg (600 g) Olivieri® Italian Sausage Borsetti
Freshly grated Romano or Parmesan cheese

HEAT a large skillet over medium-high and cook bacon until slightly crisp. Add sausage and cook for another 4-5 minutes. Add onion and garlic and continue to cook until onions are translucent. Stir in chili flakes, balsamic, Worcestershire, brown sugar and Italian seasoning. Continue to cook until onions are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Pour in marinara sauce and bring to a simmer for another 5-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

COOK pasta in a large pot of salted water according to the package directions. Drain well. Serve the cooked sausage Borsetti smothered in sauce.

SPRINKLE with grated Romano cheese and serve.

Wine Pairing – Serve this with a hearty Italian red like Montepulciano or a Primitivo.
