Grilled Veggie & Turkey Pita Burgers

About this Recipe

A grilled turkey burger with grilled vegetables, served up with hummus and tahini sauce. Convenient to eat by hand in a pita bread envelope.

Ingredients

1 lb Maple Leaf Prime ground turkey with rosemary extract
Pepper, to taste
1 tsp Minced garlic
3 tbsp Minced red onion
.5 tsp Ground cumin
.5 cup Hummus
1 tbsp Tahini sauce
.25 cup Large chunks of red onion
.5 cup Large pieces of red pepper
.25 cup Large pieces of yellow pepper
.75 cup Large pieces of zucchini
25 Plum tomatoes
.25 cup Extra Virgin olive oil
.5 Lemon, juiced
4 Whole wheat pita bread, tops sliced or broken off

Directions

Burgers
1.
In a large bowl, combine the minced turkey, egg, minced onion and garlic, cumin, salt and pepper and mix thoroughly.

Form the meat onto four equal sized circular patties . Place the parties on a hot grill for 10 minutes or until sufficiently cooked and the juice runs clearly.
3.
Combine the lemon juice and olive oil.
Brush the vegetable chunks with the oil mixture and place the chunks on the grill or into a grilling basket.
Grill on high heat until cooked and a touch charred. Turn as needed, to ensure even cooking.
4.
Spread the hummus evenly on the bottom of each pita.
Divide the grilled vegetables into four even parts. Place some vegetables on the hummus. Place a grilled meat patty on top.
Drizzle a little tahini sauce on top and place the balance of the grilled vegetables on top of the patty.
5.
Serve immediately.
