About this Recipe

All the taste of a bowl of French onion soup packed into this awesome take on a sausage dog! You don’t have to wait for winter to indulge in this BBQ recipe!


1 Pkg (375 g) Schneiders Oktoberfest Grill'ems
6 mini brioche buns, split
1/2 cup (125mL) butter, melted + 2 tbsp
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 large onions, thinly sliced
1 tbsp (15mL) sherry vinegar
5 slices gruyere or swiss cheese
1/2 cup (125mL) Dijon mustard


PREHEAT grill to medium high heat.

HEAT 2 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium high heat.

COOK onions stirring frequently about 7 to 8 minutes or until onions are caramelized and browning.

STIR in vinegar, thyme and season with salt and pepper. Set aside and keep warm.

GRILL sausages 6 to 8 minutes turning frequently or until an internal temperature of 165 degrees is reached.

LIGHTLY brush each bun with melted butter and toast bread on grill for about 30 seconds.

PLACE a slice of cheese into each bun.

DIVIDE onions on top followed by sausages.

SPREAD mustard over top.

SERVE immediately.


Try using spicy or grainy Dijon!
