I love roasting a Christmas turkey in the house as it fills the house with the sweet smell of turkey.
|14 lbs||fresh Prime turkey|
|3/4 cup||butter, cut into small cubes, softened|
|2||onion, cut in half|
Wash the bird well and pat dry with paper towels. Tuck wings in. Place in roasting pan, and smear butter all over the skin and underneath the skin over the breast and legs. Place onion halves into cavity of bird. Cook in a preheated 350 deg F oven for 2 1/2 - 3 hours, basting every 20 minutes until thermometer in thigh reads 180 deg. F.
