Quick, easy, inexpensive and filling, this family favourite recipe is the perfect budget recipe for a cold winters night.
|salt and pepper to taste|
Put Whole Chicken in a large pot and cover with water. Boil until the chicken is cooked through and tender, about an hour. Once tender, remove from water and let cool enough that you can remove the chicken from the bone. Add all the chicken back into the pot and bring to a boil.
To make the dumplings, combine the flour, butter and milk. On a cutting board, sprinkle some flour and then roll out the dumpling dough to about 1 cm thick. Cut into small cubes and drop a few at a time into the boiling chicken. Add salt and pepper to taste, and turn to low heat and simmer about 2 hours until thickened to a creamy consistency.
Serve with mixed vegetables or a salad to round out the meal.
Very few ingredients, really budget friendly, kid friendly even for picky eaters.
