This recipe was the result of a pleasant, but unexpected, visit from father-in-law. He loves homemade dessert and this was ready in a jiffy
|.5 Pkg||Tenderflake Pie Crust or Puff Pastry|
|2 cups||cooking apples, peeled, cored, and evenly sliced|
|1 tsp||ground cinnamon|
|.5 cup||brown sugar|
|2 tbsp||Chai coffee syrup|
|2 tbsp||corn starch|
|5 tbsp||Egg wash|
|2 tbsp||coarse sugar, for sprinkling|
Combine apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, salt, coffee syrup, butter, and cornstarch in a medium sauce pan and bring to a boil over medium heat. It may be necessary to add a bit of water to begin the apples cookies.
When the mixture thickens, remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature
Roll pie crust or puff pastry to a 12" circle. Place on parchment or non-stick baking mat.
Carefully pile apples in the middle and bring the edges up around the filling.
Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar
For Puff Pastry - bake in a 400 F oven approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown
For pie pastry, bake in a 350 F oven approximately 25-30 minutes.
