About this Recipe

Bon Bon Achievement Unlocked! Homemade Thunder Bay Bon Bon (Dry Pork Ribs) of DELICIOUSNESS!

If you are from Thunder Bay or ever eaten at one of the local Canadian Chinese Restaurants, you will know what these are.

6 eggs beaten
1 tsp chinese allspice
1.5 tsp MSG (yes MSG)
2 tsp soya sauce
3 lbs Maple Leaf Pork Ribs (choose your preferred cut) chopped into individual ribs or riblets
2 tsp water or white wine
1 cup flour or breadcrumbs if you like or a combination or both
1 cup potato powder or 1/2 cup more of flour or breadcrumb content if you can't find it
1 Lemon

Step 1 – mix eggs, allspice, MSG, soya sauce, 1 tbsp of potato powder and wine (or water)

2 – dip ribs into egg mixture and let soak for about 2 hours in fridge

3 – mix bread crumbs and flour (or do what I did and put each in a separate baggie shaking the ribs to coat in the potato powder first and the breadcrumbs second)

4 – roll ribs in breadcrumb mixture

5 – deep fry for about 5 to 7 minutes (I fried them 6 at a time in a large coated fry pan with about 3/4 inch of oil for about 10 mins, meatier side down first then flipping them over when there was about 3-4 mins left)

You will be able to tell when they are done. You can freeze these.

Ask your butcher to cut the ribs or get some riblets if you cant find them like this.
Spritz with the juice of Lemon and enjoy!

You don't have to use the MSG but why mess with tradition?
