Create a great batch of delicious fried chicken nuggets inspired by the spice secrets of certain fast food restaurants. Easy as can be with great results!
|2 cups||plain flour|
|1 tsp||salt and pepper|
|1 tsp||dried basil|
|1 tsp||ground chili|
|1 tsp||ground paprika|
|1 tsp||garlic powder|
|1 tsp||onion powder|
|1 tsp||dried sage|
|1 tsp||dried oregano|
|2||large chicken breasts - organic, grain-fed|
|vegetable or sunflower oil|
Prepare flour mixture with dry spices, mix well and set aside.
Beat the one egg into the buttermilk and make your egg wash, or dip.
Cut chicken breast in large chunks or cubes.
Method: Dust in flour mix then dip in the buttermilk, then back into the flour and finally end it with the buttermilk dip. You can repeat this more times if you wish, it just creates a thicker fast-food restaurant like coating. A double dip was satisfactory for me.
Heat sunflower or vegetable oil in a pot over medium-high heat.
[If you have a deep fryer, use that!]
Tip: Put a tiny bit of bread in the oil – if it starts to sizzle your oil is ready to fry!
Place the chicken in, do not overcrowd.
What you are looking for is a beautiful crispy golden-brown finished coating. They should take about 3-5 minutes to fully cook.
Tip: If preparing ahead of time, it is best to marinate your chicken pieces in the buttermilk and egg wash overnight, but they turn out equally amazing if you choose to dip n’ fry right away!
The amount of these spices can later be changed up depending on taste and how spicy you might like it.
