About this Recipe

A new twist on a family favourite dessert. I used a mix of green and red apples for a tangy but sweet apple crisp.

6 Dempsters Apple Pie flavoured Bagels
6 Apples
peeled and chopped
1/2 cup White sugar
2 tbsp Orange juice
2 tsp Cinnamon
1 1/4 cup Flour
3/4 cup Brown sugar
1/2 cup Butter
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Ground cloves
3/4 cup Caramel sauce (usually in produce section of grocery store
near apples)
null Aluminium foil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium bowl, mix apples, white sugar, orange juice and 1 tsp cinnamon.

In another bowl, mix flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, brown sugar, butter, salt and cloves. Mash the mixture until it is crumbly.

To make double decker bagels, take bagel tops and slice horizontally to make two pieces.

Line baking pan with foil. Place bagel bottoms in the pan. Spread flour/brown sugar mixture on bun bottoms. Add a layer of the apple/sugar mixture.

Place the bagel center pieces on top the apple mixture to begin the next layer. Spread the flour/brown sugar mixture on top of the bun centers and add a few spoonfuls of the apples/sugar mixture.

Put the bun tops on top of the buns, and sprinkle a few tablespoons of the flour/brown sugar mixture on top of the buns. (Drizzle apple caramel sauce over the top of buns if desired).

Place another piece of aluminium foil over the bagels, pinch around edges but leave some spots open to vent steam.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, open foil to expose bagel tops. Continue cooking for 5 to 10 minutes, until the tops are golden brown.

Remove apple crisp bagels from the oven and serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
