These Bacon Cheddar Biscuits are perfect to serve at your next family brunch!
|6||Strips MAPLE LEAF® Bacon, finely chopped|
|1 cup||(250 mL) All purpose flour|
|2 tsp||(10 mL) Baking powder|
|¼ tsp||(1 mL) Baking soda|
|1/3 cup||(75 mL) Cold unsalted butter, cut into ¼-inch (5 mm) cubes|
|½ cup||(125 mL) Grated Cheddar cheese|
|2||Green onions, thinly sliced|
|½ cup||(125 mL) Cold Buttermilk|
PREHEAT oven to 450°F (230°C).
COOK bacon in a non-stick skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes or until slightly crisp. Drain with paper towel and set aside.
SIFT together flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add butter and incorporate into flour mixture using fingers or pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add bacon, green onion and cheese to flour mixture, stir to combine. Add buttermilk and gently stir, using a fork, being careful not to over mix.
TURN dough onto a well-floured surface and knead 2 or 3 times until dough comes together. Using fingers, flatten into a rectangle shape about ½–inch to ¾-inch (1cm to 2 cm) thick.
CUT dough into six even squares and brush with a little bit of extra buttermilk. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
BAKE in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until biscuits are golden brown.
