About this Recipe

1 Frozen Deep Dish Pie Shell, defrosted
3 Medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1/2 cup Fresh cranberries (optional)
1 tbsp Lemon juice
2/3 cup Granulated sugar, divided
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
1/2 cup Flour
1/3 cup Butter

PREHEAT oven to 450°F (230°C).

CUT a 15” (38 cm) circle of aluminum foil and sprinkle with flour. Remove pastry from the foil plate and place on top of the aluminum foil circle. Roll pastry to 11” (28 cm) in diameter. Place the pastry and aluminum foil on a baking sheet or pizza pan.

PLACE apple slices in an overlapping circle around the pastry leaving a 1 ½” (3.5 cm) border. Decorate with cranberries if using. Sprinkle with lemon juice.

COMBINE 1/3-cup (80 mL) sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the fruit. Combine flour with remaining sugar; cut in butter and sprinkle over the fruit.

TURN up the edges of the pastry to form an edge. Fit foil close to the pastry edge and bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until crust is golden brown and the apples are tender. Serve warm.
