This recipe has been a "go to" and favourite for over 20 years. It was on the inside of a Tenderflake box in 1993. Super simple with a wow factor.
|1 cup||ground almonds (100gm bag)|
|1/2 tsp||almond extract (real, not essence)|
|4||or more large apples (Gravenstein, Granny Smith, hard)|
|2 tbsp||sugar (top)|
Prepare bottom crust and place in pan.
Mix butter, sugar, almonds, flour, egg and extract.
Spread mixture on bottom of pie crust.
Put peeled and sliced apples on custard.
Sprinkle with 2T sugar.
Roll out and place top crust.
Bake at 425F for 10 minutes, then 350F for 35 to 45 minutes. Yum!
Estimated prep time is for pie assembly only. I make and freeze my crusts in advance. Or you could use pre-made.
Fabulous Apple Pie with a twist.
